How does laser brown spot treatments work?

First, the laser beam targets the pigment within the pigment containing cell. Next, heat energy beneath the surface of the skin is absorbed. Thus, destroying the cell while leaving surrounding skin, nerves and tissue untouched.

  • First, your skin will be prepped. Next, you will be given special eye coverings to wear. Then the doctor will guide the laser over the treatment area. Subsequently, you may feel a slight warm sensation. After, a specialized topical ointment will be applied. Overall, treatments take a few minutes up to fifteen.

  • Laser brown spots can be performed on any part of the body. However, treatment cannot be done in areas of a tattoo, permanent make-up or a tan.

  • We can safely perform this procedure on Fitzpatrick Skin Types I to IV.

  • You must avoid tanning or use of self tanning products two weeks before treatment. Of note, Laser brown spots CANNOT be performed on tanned skin. Additionally, one week before treatment, you may discontinue using any products that cause exfoliation of the skin (i.e. glycolic or lactic acid, retin-A, etc). Lastly, arrive at your appointment with clean skin.

  • In some cases, one treatment is sufficient. Depending on the size, color and depth of the dark spot, 2-3 treatments may be necessary.

  • Depending on the size and depth of the lesion as well as lifestyle factors, periodic maintenance treatments may be necessary. We also recommend the use of our PhytoFade Skin Lightener for maintenance and prevention.
