MicroTox
Refine Your Skin Without Freezing Your Expression
Sometimes the concern is not one deep wrinkle—it is the overall quality of the skin. Enlarged-looking pores, excess oil, uneven texture, fine crepey lines, and a shiny appearance can make the complexion look less smooth and refreshed.
Microtox is a physician-administered injectable treatment designed to improve the appearance of the skin while maintaining natural facial movement.
What Is Microtox?
Microtox uses tiny amounts of a carefully diluted neuromodulator placed through a series of very superficial injections across the treatment area.
Traditional wrinkle-relaxing injections are generally placed into specific facial muscles to soften expression lines. Microtox is placed closer to the surface of the skin and is less focused on relaxing the deeper muscles.
What Can Microtox Improve?
Microtox may be considered for concerns such as:
Enlarged or more noticeable pores
Oily skin or excess facial shine
Uneven or rough-looking skin texture
Fine, superficial lines
Crepey-looking skin
Early skin laxity
A desire for smoother-looking skin without an overly treated appearance
The treatment can be customized for selected areas of the face and neck based on your skin, facial anatomy, and goals.
Microtox vs. Traditional Wrinkle-Relaxing Injections
Although both treatments use a neuromodulator, they are performed differently and are intended to address different concerns.
Traditional Neuromodulator Treatment
Traditional injections are placed into selected facial muscles to soften expression lines caused by repeated movement, such as forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet.
Microtox
Microtox uses smaller, more diluted droplets placed superficially across the skin. The primary goal is to enhance skin quality rather than significantly reduce movement in a particular muscle.
Some patients may benefit from Microtox alone, while others may receive a customized combination of traditional injections and Microtox during the same treatment plan.
What to Expect During Treatment
Your skin and facial movement will first be evaluated to determine whether Microtox is appropriate for your concerns.
The treatment is performed using a fine needle and a series of small, superficial injections. You may feel brief pinches or stinging as the medication is placed. Small raised bumps may be visible immediately afterward but typically settle relatively quickly.
Treatment time will depend on the areas addressed, but most appointments are completed without significant interruption to the rest of your day.
When Will I See Results?
Some patients begin to notice changes within several days, with the skin continuing to look more refined as the treatment takes effect.
Results vary depending on the treatment area, product selected, dose, skin characteristics, and individual response. Published studies of superficial intradermal botulinum toxin treatments have reported benefits lasting approximately three to four months in some patients.
Maintenance treatments may be recommended based on your response and aesthetic goals.
Is There Downtime?
Microtox generally requires minimal downtime. Temporary effects may include:
Redness
Small raised injection-site bumps
Mild swelling or tenderness
Pinpoint marks
Bruising
Patients will receive individualized aftercare instructions following treatment.
The Total Illusion Difference
Microtox is not a one-formula-fits-every-face treatment. The dilution, amount of product, treatment depth, injection pattern, and areas selected all influence the final result.
At Total Illusion, treatment is planned and performed by Dr. Eakin with careful attention to your facial anatomy, skin quality, movement, and desired level of correction.
The goal is not to make your face look frozen or artificially smooth. It is to create a subtle improvement that helps your skin appear more refined, balanced, and refreshed.
Smoother-Looking Skin. Natural-Looking Movement.
Microtox offers a different approach to injectable treatment—one that focuses on refining the appearance of the skin rather than dramatically changing the way your face moves.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Microtox is designed to work more superficially than traditional neuromodulator injections, with the goal of improving skin quality while preserving natural expression. However, it is still a neuromodulator, and unintended muscle relaxation can occur if the product spreads or is placed too deeply.
Careful dosing, injection depth, and knowledge of facial anatomy are essential.
-
The terms are sometimes used interchangeably, but they are not necessarily the same.
“Baby Botox” usually refers to smaller doses of neuromodulator placed into facial muscles. Microtox generally describes a more diluted product placed through superficial microinjections to address skin texture, oiliness, pores, and fine surface lines.
-
Not always. Microtox and traditional wrinkle-relaxing injections address different concerns.
Traditional injections may be more appropriate for deeper expression lines caused by muscle movement. Microtox may be more appropriate when the primary goal is to improve the appearance of the skin’s surface. A combination treatment may be recommended when both concerns are present.
-
No treatment can permanently change the natural structure of your pores. Microtox may temporarily reduce oil production and make pores appear less noticeable, but results vary and maintenance may be needed.
-
Botulinum toxin products have specific FDA-approved cosmetic indications and injection techniques. The superficial intradermal technique commonly called Microtox is considered an off-label use.
Off-label treatment does not mean that a medication is prohibited. It means the medication is being used in a manner that is not included in its FDA-approved labeling. FDA labeling for BOTOX Cosmetic describes specific intramuscular treatment areas and emphasizes the importance of accurate dosing, administration technique, and knowledge of facial anatomy.
-
Potential effects include temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, headache, asymmetry, unwanted weakness of a nearby muscle, eyelid or eyebrow drooping, changes in the smile, or an unsatisfactory cosmetic result.
The risks depend on the area treated, dose, product, dilution, and injection depth. Rare but potentially serious reactions are also possible with botulinum toxin products and will be reviewed before treatment.
-
Microtox may not be appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in the presence of an infection at the treatment site, or for individuals with certain neuromuscular conditions or medication interactions.
Your medical history, current medications, previous injectable treatments, and treatment goals will be reviewed before the procedure.
