Radiesse®
Restore Support. Strengthen the Skin. Age More Naturally.
Over time, the skin produces less collagen and elastin—the proteins that help it feel firm, resilient, and supported. The result may be increasing laxity, less defined contours, crepey texture, and a gradual loss of facial structure.
Radiesse® is an injectable collagen biostimulator that works with your skin to rebuild support from within. It can provide an immediate improvement in selected areas while encouraging the production of new collagen and elastin for results that continue to develop over time.
What Is Radiesse?
Radiesse is made with smooth calcium hydroxylapatite, or CaHA, microspheres suspended in a water-based gel.
When injected, the gel can provide immediate support and contour. The CaHA microspheres then act as a scaffold within the tissue, activating fibroblasts—the cells involved in producing collagen and other components that support the skin’s structure.
As the gel carrier is gradually absorbed, the newly produced collagen and elastin help support continued improvements in the appearance and quality of the skin.
What Can a Collagen Biostimulator Improve?
Radiesse may be considered when you are beginning to notice:
Mild to moderate skin laxity
Less defined facial contours
A softer or less structured jawline
Crepey or thinning-looking skin
Reduced skin firmness and elasticity
Wrinkles and deeper facial folds
Age-related volume loss in the hands
Lines and wrinkles across the décolleté
Your treatment will be customized based on whether your primary goal is structural support, facial contouring, improved skin quality, or a combination of these concerns.
More Than Traditional Filler
Traditional hyaluronic acid filler is primarily used to replace volume, soften lines, or enhance a specific facial feature.
Radiesse can provide some immediate structural support, but it also stimulates the skin’s regenerative processes. This makes it especially useful when the goal is not simply to make an area fuller, but to improve the foundation and strength of the tissue over time.
Depending on your needs, Radiesse may be used in a more concentrated form for support and contour or in a diluted technique that distributes the product across a broader area with greater emphasis on skin quality.
Some diluted or hyperdiluted techniques and treatment areas may be considered off-label and will be discussed during your consultation.
Where Can Radiesse Be Used?
Treatment areas may include:
Lower face
Chin and jawline
Selected facial folds
Hands
Neck and décolleté
Other areas with crepey skin or mild laxity, when appropriate
In the United States, Radiesse and Radiesse (+) have FDA-approved indications that include moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Additional approved indications include jawline contour improvement with Radiesse (+), volume loss in the backs of the hands, and décolleté wrinkles when Radiesse is used according to the approved dilution and technique.
Not every treatment area or technique is FDA approved. Dr. Eakin will explain when a recommended use is considered off-label.
What to Expect During Treatment
Before treatment, Dr. Eakin will evaluate your:
Facial or body anatomy
Skin thickness and quality
Degree of laxity or volume loss
Existing filler and injectable history
Long-term aesthetic goals
Medical history and current medications
The treatment area will be cleansed, and the product will be carefully placed using a needle, cannula, or a combination of techniques.
You may feel pressure, pinching, or temporary stinging during treatment. Radiesse (+) contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic intended to improve comfort during injection.
The amount of product and number of appointments needed will depend on the area treated, the degree of correction desired, and whether the goal is contouring, collagen stimulation, or both.
When Will I See Results?
Some improvement may be visible immediately when Radiesse is used to provide structure or contour.
The collagen-stimulating benefits develop more gradually as the skin responds to treatment. Improvements in firmness, texture, elasticity, and support may continue to evolve over the following weeks and months.
Results are not permanent. Longevity varies based on the treatment area, product placement, metabolism, skin quality, and individual response. Published research has reported benefits lasting approximately 12 to 18 months in some patients, although results vary.
Maintenance treatment may be recommended to support your results over time.
Is There Downtime?
Most patients can return to many routine activities after treatment, but temporary swelling or bruising should be expected.
Possible short-term effects include:
Swelling
Redness
Bruising
Tenderness or discomfort
Itching
Firmness or palpable product
Temporary unevenness
These effects generally improve as the area settles. Treatments involving the hands may produce more significant swelling or temporary difficulty with some activities.
You will receive individualized aftercare instructions based on the area treated.
The Total Illusion Difference
Collagen stimulation is not about injecting the same amount of product into every patient.
At Total Illusion, your treatment is planned with attention to your anatomy, tissue quality, facial proportions, previous procedures, and how you would like to age.
Dr. Eakin may also evaluate whether collagen loss is occurring alongside other factors that influence skin health, including:
Hormonal changes
Nutrient deficiencies
Chronic stress
Weight loss or changes in body composition
Sun exposure
Lifestyle and metabolic health
Your plan may include Radiesse alone or combine it with medical skincare, laser treatment, PRX, microneedling, neuromodulators, or other regenerative treatments when appropriate.
The goal is not to create unnecessary fullness. It is to restore support, improve skin quality, and preserve what makes your appearance uniquely yours.
Invest in the Foundation of Your Skin
A refreshed appearance does not always require adding more volume. Sometimes it begins by helping the skin rebuild the support it has gradually lost.
Radiesse offers an individualized approach to restoring structure, encouraging collagen production, and improving the way your skin ages over time.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
It is both.
Radiesse can provide immediate structural support like a dermal filler while also activating fibroblasts and stimulating the production of collagen, elastin, and other components of the skin’s extracellular matrix.
The way it is diluted and placed determines whether the treatment focuses more on contour, volume, skin quality, or a combination.
-
Not necessarily. When Radiesse is used for contour and structural support, some immediate correction may be visible. When it is used in a more diluted technique, the goal may be improved firmness and skin quality rather than noticeable volume.
Your treatment plan will be based on the amount of fullness—or lack of fullness—you want.
-
Both products stimulate collagen, but they are made from different materials and behave differently in the tissue.
Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite and can provide immediate support in addition to gradual collagen stimulation. Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid and typically produces its visible correction more gradually.
The best option depends on your anatomy, skin thickness, treatment area, desired timeline, and aesthetic goals.
-
No. Radiesse is not a hyaluronic acid filler and cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase.
For this reason, conservative treatment, precise placement, appropriate patient selection, and an experienced injector are especially important.
-
Some patients achieve their desired improvement with one treatment, while others benefit from a planned series.
The number of sessions depends on your degree of collagen loss, the area being treated, the amount of correction desired, and whether Radiesse is being used for structural support or broader skin rejuvenation.
-
Yes. Depending on your goals, it may be incorporated into a broader plan that includes neuromodulators, laser treatments, medical microneedling, PRX, medical-grade skincare, or other injectables.
The sequence and timing of treatments matter. Your plan will be designed to allow the tissue to heal appropriately between procedures.
-
In addition to temporary swelling, bruising, tenderness, redness, and itching, potential risks include infection, asymmetry, visible or palpable lumps, nodules, unwanted contour changes, and an unsatisfactory cosmetic result.
As with all injectable fillers, accidental injection into a blood vessel is a rare but serious complication that may cause tissue injury, vision impairment, blindness, or stroke.
The benefits, alternatives, and potential risks will be reviewed before treatment.
-
Radiesse should not be used in patients with certain severe allergies, known hypersensitivity to the product’s components, bleeding disorders, or active inflammation or infection near the planned treatment site. Radiesse (+) should not be used in individuals with known hypersensitivity to lidocaine or related anesthetics.
Its safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. Your medical history and medications will be reviewed before treatment.
